5 Signs Your Child Has An Infection
Recognizing the signs that your child isn’t feeling well is an important skill, but it can be tricky when your child is too young to tell you for him or herself. Some viral infection symptoms in children are very obvious, but others can be difficult to spot or to link with an infection rather than another cause.
1. Coughs, Sneezes and Runny Noses:
Coughing, sneezing or having a blocked or runny nose are some of the most obvious viral infection symptoms in children, but they aren’t always the first to show up and they can sometimes be more subtle. If your child isn’t coughing much and is suffering from less apparent symptoms such as a sore throat, you might not realize he or she is ill until you spot one of the other signs.
2. High Temperature:
Children often experience a slight fever when they are fighting off a viral infection, so if your child seems warmer than normal, it might be a clue that they are feeling ill. You should check your child’s temperature if you think that he or she might have a fever or infection. If the fever gets too high, you will need to seek medical attention.
3. Crankiness:
Babies and children get cranky and irritated over plenty of different things, but one of the possible causes is that they aren’t feeling well. If your child seems unhappy for no apparent reason and the usual tactics aren’t working, it could be because they are suffering from the symptoms of a viral infection.
4. Difficulty Sleeping:
Another sign that your child might be feeling ill is that he or she isn’t sleeping as well as usual. Although difficulty sleeping can happen for many different reasons, you might want to check for other signs of illness such as a high temperature.
5. Rubbing His/Her Ear:
Earache is among the most common viral infection symptoms in children, although it is easy to overlook because it is less obvious than a cough or a runny nose. We also tend to get fewer earaches as adults, so it is easy to forget that it is so common in babies and children. If your child keeps rubbing his or her ear, it could be a sign of an infection that is making it ache.
